Thinking About Neck Rejuvenation?

What Causes Neck Wrinkles?

Our skin is constantly replenishing itself, using properties like collagen, keratin, hyaluronic acid, and fats. Unfortunately, from as early as age 30, we begin to produce less and less collagen.

As our skin becomes thinner, it’s more likely to cause wrinkles and folds with repeated movements of our chin, neck, and shoulders. These start as bands around the neck, then move to the upper chest area.

Weight changes, reduced hydration, and underlying skin conditions can also affect the decolletage area. Genetics also play a role, as someone’s parents with wrinkles and thin skin in the area are likely to develop it too. The skin in this area is also as sensitive as the skin on the face. A lack of skincare and sunscreen can also lead to wrinkles, damage, and hyperpigmentation.

Introducing Radiesse

Radiesse is made from calcium hydroxyapatite, which occurs naturally in the body. Calcium hydroxyapatite combines with several other substances to maintain the skin’s elasticity and healthy growth.  It works by stimulating collagen production, which can help to improve the appearance of wrinkles over time. It can also plump up your skin, smoothing out wrinkles in smaller areas of the face.  Radiesse is injected into the skin using a small cannula. The injections are usually well tolerated, and there is minimal discomfort associated with the procedure.

Sculptra or Radiesse? Which is better?

Sculptra and Radiesse are both popular biostimulatory injections used to enhance facial contours and combat signs of aging. Sculptra, an FDA-approved poly-L-lactic acid, stimulates collagen production and gradually restores facial volume over time. On the other hand, Radiesse, made of calcium hydroxylapatite (also known as CaHa) microspheres, provides immediate correction and stimulates natural collagen production for long-lasting results.

Unwanted Inflammatory Responses

While Sculptra triggers an inflammatory biological reaction, Radiesse, (calcium hydroxylapatite), elicits a physiologically normal response. This means Radiesse has a more natural integration with the body’s tissues, reducing the risk of adverse reactions. If you have a predisposition to allergies, inflammatory conditions, or other autoimmune conditions, this may lead you to choose Radiesse over Sculptra.

Your Neck Rejuvenation Checklist:

What You Need to Know Before Treatment

Whether you’re considering neck rejuvenation for the first time or you’re a seasoned pro, it’s important to be prepared before treatment. Any neck rejuvenation procedure starts with a visit to your doctor.

1. Know your options

There are a variety of neck rejuvenation treatments available, from dermal fillers to laser skin resurfacing. It is essential to do your research and consult with a doctor to find out which treatment is right for you. Radiesse is the best option for quick, non-invasive treatment. Dr. Nema might combine Radiesse with other techniques for the best results. Once you know your options, you can make the best decision possible.

2. Have realistic expectations

No treatment can turn back the hands of time, but a well-chosen neck rejuvenation treatment can help improve the appearance of wrinkles, sun damage, and more. You’ll notice great results, but there could still be signs of aging.

3. Be prepared for recovery

Depending on the treatment you choose, you may have some downtime afterward. Luckily, injectables like Radiesse have little to no downtime. However, plan and take care of yourself during recovery to maximize your results. You can follow Dr. Nema's instructions to reduce redness and swelling.  As part of recovery, get plenty of rest, keep an anti-inflammatory diet, and avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours. If you see any excess redness, or swelling, or experience severe discomfort, see us again right away.
